Departmental Overview The Goldman School of Public Policy (GSPP) is a professional school grounded in scholarly practice and aligns with UC Berkeley’s public mission. It offers graduate programs in public policy and has research centers such as the Institute for Security and Governance, the Possibility Lab, and the Berkeley Risk and Security Lab. GSPP employs over 70 staff and serves more than 300 Master’s candidates and 12 PhD students.
Position Summary The Berkeley Risk and Security Lab is seeking an Operations Coordinator to manage the lab’s administrative operations, including finance, event coordination, faculty support, IT, facilities, and student services. The role supports BRSL programs and researchers.
Responsibilities
Gather and analyze financial and resource data; prepare budgets, reports, and operational analyses.
Assist with drafting contracts and grants, overseeing post‑award administration.
Ensure compliance with award terms, regulate funds, and maintain financial integrity.
Draft grant budgets, track ongoing project budgets, and assist the faculty director in assembling lab‑wide budgets.
Coordinate facilities, event planning, and student services.
Provide general office administrative operations for BRSL.
Serve as the administrative point of contact, respond to inquiries, liaise with IT/media/facilities, and support teaching, research, and policy engagement.
Exercise independent judgment on moderate‑scope tasks and delegate to student assistants as needed.
Plan and administer all BRSL events with program coordinators and communications manager.
Monitor lab email account and delegate responses.
Participate in human resources activities: onboarding new hires, fellows, interns, visitors; complete HR and payroll forms.
Onboard and track BRSL fellows, conduct screening interviews, fill job cards, and monitor volunteers and affiliates.
Act as lab purchaser: process reimbursements, purchase travel, and procure devices and accessories.
Consult on financial management best practices and resolve vendor issues.
Contribute to revision of BRSL operating procedures and guidelines.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of administrative operations such as events planning, website management, finance, and accounting.
Proficiency with university rules, regulations, and procedures for budgeting, accounting, fund management, and personnel management.
Excellent computer skills: MS Office, Google Suite, video conferencing platforms, and ability to learn new software.
Solid communication and interpersonal skills, effective with staff at all levels.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills, able to prioritize and meet competing deadlines.
Judgment in responding to issues and concerns; strong attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members.
Problem‑solving capability.
Prior administrative or office management experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.

Full‑time (40 hrs/week), career position eligible for UC Benefits.
