Qualifications
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine, approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
Residency Training: completion of an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Residency may be ACGME, AOA, or other programs that meet VA standards and provide comprehensive patient care experience.
Residents in accredited ACGME/AOA programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they have a defined scope of practice under supervision.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical requirements include mobility, manual dexterity, strength, stamina, visual and hearing ability, strong communication skills, and mental and emotional stability.

Duties
Diagnose and treat neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and others.
Perform neurological examinations and interpret results of diagnostic tests—including MRIs, CT scans, and EEGs.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
Provide inpatient and outpatient care to veterans with neurological conditions.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, social workers, and therapists.
Consult with other departments and specialists and participate in case discussions and treatment planning meetings.
Maintain accurate, timely medical records in compliance with VA regulations and policies.
Ensure all patient care activities are documented appropriately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
Follow all regulatory and organizational protocols, including privacy and safety guidelines.
Mentor medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals.
Engage in continuing medical education to stay updated with advancements in neurology.
Conduct lectures, seminars, and workshops as part of educational support.
Attend departmental meetings and contribute to policy development and organizational goals.
Participate in performance improvement and compliance activities related to neurology services.
Benefits
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – student loan payment reimbursement up to $200,000 over 1–5 years; eligibility requires VHA policy compliance and application within four months of appointment.
