Development & Communications Director

At Seed House Project (SHP), we help unhoused young people understand homelessness as an experience rather than an identity. We provide homes designed for beauty and functionality, and built with dignity and well‑being in mind to redefine what “home” means. Residents become part of a community of peer support, where they are welcomed and coached to develop a sense of personal purpose that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
SHP has a $1.7 million annual operating budget and serves up to 100 youth each year through physical campuses, outreach efforts and partnerships in the Los Angeles community. SHP is poised for expansion and our dedicated leadership, staff and Board of Directors look forward to including a strong Development & Communications Director to play a critical role in the next phase of growth of our organization.
Development & Communications Director Role Overview You wake up every morning with a sense of empathy and commitment to the greater good. You’ve been described as “proactive” and “a self‑starter” and project management is one of your superpowers. You are an experienced Development Director ready to roll up your sleeves and advance our organization by developing, implementing, and measuring comprehensive and effective fundraising strategies. You have proven experience securing major gifts from individuals and institutions, stewarding donor relationships, and you bring active connections in the philanthropic space. You are adept at managing cross‑functional teams and in galvanizing board members, staff, donors, and volunteers to secure resources. Your energy and spirit will foster partnership, collaboration, mentorship, open communication, joy, positive morale, and tangible results to expand SHP’s capacity to serve.
Our new Development & Communications Director will be a thought partner with the Executive Director and will be instrumental in strategizing and leading to strengthen the agency’s infrastructure, board of directors, and programmatic reach. The Development & Communications Director will be a lead and support the long‑term vision and work of the CEO and Board of Directors through open communication, big‑picture strategic thinking, careful measurement and assessment, and rational recommendations on fundraising and other key issues.
