Software Engineer II (M365 Copilot‑Turing Team)

on the Turing team, you will leverage your skills and experience to help build the platform that powers Microsoft’s enterprise Copilots. Projects span across building core orchestration, advanced capabilities such as code and image generation, enabling multimodal interactions, or pioneering AI‑driven computer use for hundreds of millions of users.

Recent launches like the Analyst Agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot showcase the breadth and depth of the impact you’ll help drive across the stack.

The Microsoft Turing team is an innovative engineering and research team working on state‑of‑the‑art deep learning models to power end‑user experiences across the company. Software engineers and applied scientists in the Turing team work together to push the boundaries of large‑scale deep learning models on the Microsoft 365 core world‑class distributed training infrastructure.

Qualifications Required Qualifications:

1+ years industry experience with one or more of the following: Artificial Intelligence, Distributed Systems, Information Retrieval and/or Data Mining.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings.

Microsoft Cloud Background Check : This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.

Equivalent experience.

Ability and effectiveness working end-to-end in a technical problem domain (plan, design, execution, continuous release and service operation).

Experience in software engineering fundamentals, including coding, problem solving and data analysis skills.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 – $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 – $215,400 per year.

Responsibilities

You will work closely with applied scientists and engineers on building and designing both backend platform capabilities as well as core copilot scenarios aimed at delighting our customers.

You will design and deliver scalable, high-performance features that power next‑generation AI experiences.

Defining the architecture, implementation plan, ensuring everything is tested and robust, and improving processes to contribute to our best practices.
