Position Summary
Miami Township is seeking a qualified and experienced Community Development Director to lead the Township's planning, zoning, and property maintenance functions. This leadership position plays a pivotal role in guiding sustainable growth, enhancing livability, and preserving the Township's natural and developed environments.
The Director works collaboratively with Township leadership, residents, developers, and partner agencies to implement strategic plans and development initiatives that support Miami Township's long‑term vision. The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, deep regulatory knowledge, and a clear dedication to serving the public with integrity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administers and enforces the
Township Zoning Resolution
and
Property Maintenance Code .
Manages daily zoning and planning operations, including permit issuance, records management, and regulatory compliance.
Supervises departmental staff, interprets policy, and ensures that activities align with directives from the Township Administrator and Board of Trustees.
Provides professional support and technical guidance to the
Zoning Commission
and
Board of Zoning Appeals , preparing staff reports and recommendations.
Drafts and recommends revisions to planning documents such as the Comprehensive Plan, corridor plans, and other development strategies.
Serves as the Township's primary liaison to residents, developers, businesses, and public agencies regarding planning and zoning matters.
Analyzes and provides recommendations for zoning map and text amendments, site plan reviews, and long‑range planning initiatives.
Coordinates closely with the
Clermont County Planning Commission
and
Building Department
on development and zoning issues.
Works with the Township Law Director on enforcement and abatement of zoning and property maintenance violations.
Maintains accurate records of zoning permits, violations, and applications in accordance with established retention schedules.
Collaborates with the
Economic Development Director
on overlapping projects and initiatives that promote community growth.
Maintains up‑to‑date information for the community development section of the Township's website.
Represents the department at
Board of Trustees meetings
and other public forums as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in
Urban Planning, Community Planning, or a related field .
Graduate degree in Planning or a related discipline preferred.
Minimum of
three (3) years of experience
in public planning, zoning administration, or a closely related field.
Experience within a township, village, city, county, or state government setting preferred.
Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
preferred.
Strong knowledge of planning principles, zoning regulations, and development review processes.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in planning and GIS software tools.
Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under Township requirements.
