As a Senior Specialist in Merchandising, you will play a key role in driving profitable growth and enhancing our product offerings. You’ll support the Category Merchant and manage departments, channels, and projects, collaborating across teams like Merchandising, Finance, Pricing, Sales, Marketing, and Digital. Your impact will be felt through optimizing inventory, leading vendor negotiations, and implementing innovative strategies that deliver the best value and selection for our customers. You'll shape the future of our merchandise by analyzing market trends and consumer needs, ensuring Staples remains a leader in business solutions.
What you’ll be doing:
Define initiatives in partnership with the business owners (Category Merchants, DMM's, and GMM's)
Collaborate with business owners and cross-functional partners to create a unified strategy, project plans, and implementation timelines
Work with team to identify and implement new strategic initiatives to test/roll out targeted towards driving sales and margin growth
Develop understanding of all key performance metrics - sales, margin, DPT, and eCommerce KPIs
Monitor ongoing performance for initiatives relative to financial goals
Develop and project manage short-term plans for mitigating risks and address opportunities
Define and drive the full category strategy for a growth initiative
Manage the P&L through budget and forecast accountability
Work with vendors to expand assortment and identify cost opportunities
What you bring to the table:
Ability to work independently and execute across multiple groups
Good verbal and written communication skills necessary
Strong analytical skills, ability to quickly interpret complex data and make recommendations
Solid organization skills and ability to multi-task and follow-up
Ability to learn fast and think on your feet
Qualifications: What’s needed- Basic Qualifications
2+ years of project experience
1+ year of product specialist/equivalent experience
1+ year of work experience with merchandising/buying field
1+ year experience using Microsoft Suite (MS Excel skills a MUST)
What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Negotiation experience
Vendor Management/Engagement experience

The specific base pay may be influenced by a variety of factors to include the candidate’s experience, skill set, education, geography, business considerations, and internal equity.
