As a Solid Waste Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing a range of solid waste projects, from small-scale efforts to large, complex programs. This role involves managing both the technical aspects and client relationships, while ensuring the successful delivery of project milestones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the project manager or technical lead on various solid waste projects, possibly managing multiple assignments at once.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, supporting efforts in marketing, business development, contracts, design, and production.

  • Oversee staff allocation and workload distribution throughout each phase of project development.

  • Ensure that all project deliverables and milestones are met according to schedule.

  • Collaborate with Business Managers, Project Managers, and Department Leads to conduct regular project reviews.

  • Follow and apply the company’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols.

  • Support contract management activities and ensure proper documentation and compliance.

  • Take on additional duties as required by the role.

Additional Duties:

  • Mentor and supervise project staff, including less experienced engineers and project managers in the solid waste field.

  • Work with section managers and client development leads to set priorities and identify new business opportunities.

  • Help develop marketing strategies and proposals targeting both existing and prospective solid waste clients.

  • Manage, plan, and oversee various engineering projects related to solid waste facilities, landfills, transfer stations, and related studies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of New York State’s solid waste and recycling regulations.

  • Experience working on projects for the New York City Department of Sanitation is a plus.

  • Background in solid waste master planning, zero waste initiatives, or waste diversion programs is highly desirable.

  • Certification or experience in zero waste programs and organics facility design/management is advantageous.

  • Strong client-facing communication skills and previous experience managing direct client relationships.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD Civil 3D.

  • Preference will be given to local candidates.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or environmental field.

  • A minimum of 7 years of industry experience, with at least 2 years in a project management capacity.

  • Strong ability to collaborate with diverse teams and manage projects with precision.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational abilities, and leadership qualities.

  • A proactive mindset and a strong commitment to being part of a collaborative, employee-owned culture.
