Job Summary:

In this role as Senior Structural Engineer, you will support the structural design for the project. This will entail originating/checking complex structural calculations, specifications, material requisitions, and technical studies or reports. Additionally, checking of design drawings, review and coordination of vendor information and leading technical discussions and constructability reviews. #LI-SF1

Major Responsibilities:

Designs structures using advanced knowledge of structural analysis, including statics, dynamics, and materials engineering

Determines the appropriate use of various structural elements such as steel, wood, masonry, and concrete to ensure appropriate material is used based on load or stress requirements

Originates and checks complex structural engineering deliverables, such as steel and concrete calculations, specifications, and material requisitions

Prepares or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs for proposals, forecasts, and change orders

Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals

Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment, work and material specifications, bid evaluations and award recommendations

Coordinates structural engineering efforts in assigned areas with specialty groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendor, contractors, construction, and other functional groups

Prepares procurement and subcontract requisition documents and performs associated technical bid evaluations with award recommendations

Provides technical assistance to other structural personnel and interacts with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues

Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project structural requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution

Mentors and assists more junior structural team members

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree in Structural/Civil Engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Prior engineering team leadership experience, relevant experience includes previous experience supervising others

Ability to independently execute the detailed design of complex steel and/or concrete structures

Thorough knowledge and application of the AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, IBC and ASCE 7

Proficient in the use of structural analysis software such as GTSTRUDL or STAAD.Pro

Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings, specifications, and material requisitions and of construction methods for concrete and steel structures

Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)

Understands work processes of other disciplines and departments on projects.

Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally

Ability to resolve design issues with subordinates, suppliers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient in the use of Mathcad or similar software

Experience with procurement automation tools

Design experience with Unified Facilities Criteria and the Whole Building Design Guide

Intermediate knowledge of developing CSI Masterformat specifications, or SpecsIntact

Thorough knowledge of the provisions of ACI 349, ASCE 4-98 standards

Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Civil or Structural Engineering)

Possess active security clearance

Prior experience working with government agencies, preferably the Department of Defense
