Under the direction of the School Age Education Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Group Leader will be responsible to assist in the operation of all School Age Education programming. The Group Leader serves as an instructor and role model to program participants, participates in the planning and implementation of high quality programs by taking responsibility for each child's safety and well-being, engaging families and school staff, while complying with licensing rules and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Make meaningful connections with program participants, families and school personnel Assist with planning and organizing School Age Education activities, family events Arrive on time to site rested and well-prepared so as to maintain appropriate adult:child ratios Recognize and solve individual and group conflicts effectively Keep accurate daily attendance records Maintain a professional, clean, neat, organized and safe School Age atmosphere Attend staff training, staff meetings including required workshops or pre-School Age Education Trainings Exhibit a positive and caring attitude with children, families, school staff, and Y staff Balance School Age Education standards and expectations with flexibility Understand and follow all state licensing and Youngstar requirements as listed in DCF standards Maintain current certifications, staff file and continuing education requirements per state licensing and YMCA policies Requirements
Must be at least 18 years and possess a high school diploma or equivalent Previous experience(s) working with children preferred Must possess or attain within 90 days of hire the following certifications: CPR-Pro, AED, First Aid, Shaken Baby Certifications At least 80 hours of Early Childhood classes with documentation OR completed at least 6 credits in elementary education, child guidance or child development Willing to learn or has knowledge of state licensing for Group Child Care and Youngstar Complete staff file requirements and documents within specified timeframe SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have ability to have initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently Ability to work in and with diverse populations Must demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills Able to provide mature leadership to group of children; work well with other adults Able to have fun, be flexible and share enthusiasm with participants, families and schools Exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work Must have understanding, patience, creativity, cooperative spirit, common sense, spiritual depth and commitment to working with youth and their families
