Job Summary

This is internal employment opportunity. The College Assistance Migrant Program is seeking to fill three CAMP Outreach and Advisor positions. These are full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty positions located in Hermiston, OR; The Dalles, OR; and Albany, OR. The CAMP Outreach & Advisor will provide information to target communities, organizations, high schools, and prospective students and families about eligibility requirements to participate in CAMP. Information will be provided about the respective community colleges and the support services provided by CAMP in helping students from migrant/seasonal farmworker families to access and succeed in higher education. This position will serve as primary contact for students in the program, providing support and encouragement. They will plan educational, leadership, and cultural experiences to help the students expand their breath and depth of knowledge, in general, and in their chosen area of studies. They will coordinate summer orientation, workshops, and the tutoring and mentoring component of the program.

Key Responsibilities

40% Coordinate Academic and Support Services for Participants.

Provide culturally appropriate academic, personal, and career advising for program participants. Develop and ensure use of appropriate and timely protocol to monitor academic progress reports, including but not limited to midterm evaluations, credit hour checks, monitoring of grades each term, individual intervention when deemed necessary, referral to on- and off-campus resources, and referral to healthcare practitioners. The outcome is the successful advancement of participants beyond their first year in college ultimately to continued retention and graduation of program participants.

Coordinate, plan, and teach the CAMP workshops including scheduling guest speakers and covering topics to help students to navigate the higher education system. Plan and facilitate educational, leadership, and cultural experiences to support and widen the experiential range and awareness of CAMP students and coordinate the creation of celebratory events, and off-campus field trip(s).

25% Coordinate Outreach & Recruitment.

Serve as main contact for prospective CAMP students and their families. Provide timely and accurate information concerning admissions to OSU, financial aid applications, and scholarship applications. Utilize various methods to make contact with students who may be eligible for CAMP (phone, mail, email, in person).

Disseminate information by attending career fairs, visiting high schools with large populations of target students, various leadership institutes, etc.

Coordinate outreach and recruiting efforts with other on- and off-campus programs and offices, which also recruit and outreach to migrant students. Coordinate with Statewide 4-H programs targeted at Latino students, Oregon Migrant Education offices, Oregon Human Development Corporation, Juntos, High School Equivalency Programs and other CAMP programs.

15% Coordinate Transition and CAMP Orientation.

Provide transition support to accepted students to ensure students have housing, financial aid, and class registration. Plan and implement the CAMP Summer Orientation program for incoming students, including development of intended outcomes and assessment plan, program development, scheduling guests and presentations, and recruiting student staff to help with the program. Foster collaboration with campus partners at each institution and partner universities for transfer transitions.

15% - Coordinate Tutor and Mentor program.

Coordinate the tutoring and mentoring program, including hiring, training, and scheduling. Planning events/activities with mentors.

5% - Professional Development.

Serve on institutional committees and participate in professional development opportunities and other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need Bachelor's degree in Education Counseling, Student Services, or field related to area of assignment. At least one year of experience in working with the migrant farm worker population. At least one year of experience in advising college students. A Master's degree will substitute a one year of experience in academic advising/counseling college students.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
