SUMMARY
Provide exemplary customer service to Specialty Pharmacy Patients and Prescribers. The role of Patient Care Coordinator is to support the Specialty Pharmacy Program by providing order intake, benefits investigation, financial assistance enrollment, delivery scheduling, and other tasks required to assist Specialty Pharmacy patients and prescribers. All activities are carried out under the direct supervision of a Specialty Pharmacist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete all stages of the specialty patient order process as assigned Processes specialty prescriptions and prescription refills through Pharmacy and/or Specialty Pharmacy dispensing software. Coordinates patient care by verifying accurate patient information, completing patient surveys, scheduling orders, communicating information to the patient regarding shipments, and assessing patient supply needs. Conducts a complete benefit investigation on all referrals received to ensure a patient has valid pharmacy coverage prior to dispensing of a specialty medication. Accepts new cases for financial assistance, explaining benefits coverage to patients and ensuring all necessary information including insurance verification, copay assistance, and funding assistance is available to process orders. Notifies the Specialty and/or Store based Pharmacist of issues or changes in the patient's condition, medication compliance concerns, adverse drug events/side effects, or transfers the patient directly to a pharmacist for assistance/counseling. Provides timely response to patient's inquiries by telephone and/or email consistent with service and quality standards Receives inbound calls and places outbound calls to patients or prescriber offices regarding orders for specialty medications, pharmacy services and all other inquiries. Act as a liaison between company, patients, insurance/payer, pharma, and prescriber's office primarily via phone, along with fax and e-mail communications as needed. Explains all company programs and services to patients and prescriber office staff including what to expect from the Specialty Pharmacy services. Documents and maintains all information received during inbound or outbound calls to and from patients, caregivers, insurances, and prescriber's offices. Accurately provides notification of any urgent orders, delivery related issues, and ensures that any Quality Related Events, complaints, or compliments are efficiently delivered to the responsible individual. Identifies medication coverage options for patients, network pharmacies and prescribers including but not limited to tier structures, formulary status and preferences. Explains coverage benefits and options with patients ensuring that all necessary information for insurance verification, copay assistance, funding assistance and/or patient assistance programs is available for processing financial assistance requests. Communicates the referral out of specialty prescriptions to alternate providers as needed MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 18 years of age High School Diploma or GED 1 year previous experience in a community/specialty pharmacy Friendly, Helpful and Outstanding attitude Ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude Superior customer service skills Proficient in math calculations Multi-tasking ability Problem solving ability Strong organizational skills Keyboarding skills Proficiency with windows based computers Proficiency with MS Outlook/Email and Internet Explorer Effective communications; verbal and written Professional communication skills Knowledge of medication types and terms Knowledge of state laws and regulations pertaining to pharmacy Knowledge of common insurance plans and billing procedures Pre-employment and background check Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol screening Successful completion of Price Chopper Pharmacy Technician Training Preferred Requirements
CPhT Pharmacy/Medical billing experience with knowledge of the reimbursement and prior authorization process Experience in customer service related position
