Summary: Assistant Program Director, Family Medicine Residency

Location: MercyOne Northeast Iowa - Waterloo, IA

MercyOne Northeast Iowa is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Family Medicine physician to join as Assistant Program Director for its well-established Family Medicine Residency Program. This leadership role involves teaching, mentoring, and supervising residents in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with a focus on delivering high-quality, evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide academic leadership by teaching and mentoring residents in inpatient adult medicine and newborn care (OB optional) and outpatient continuity and procedure clinics.

Oversee resident performance during clinical rotations.

Lead 1-2 program-wide quality improvement projects annually.

Deliver 10-12 didactic lectures per year on core Family Medicine topics.

Serve as faculty advisor to approximately 5 residents.

Participate in program administration, curriculum development, and faculty meetings.

Work Schedule:

4 half-days inpatient teaching/service

2-3 half-days resident clinic supervision

1 half-day procedure clinic

1 half-day protected administrative time

1 half-day conferences

Office call rotation (1:4) with nurse triage support; no hospital call required

OB practice optional based on candidate interest

Compensation & Benefits:

Starting salary: $260,000+ (commensurate with experience)

Bonuses: $40,000 starting bonus, $40,000 longevity bonuses over first 3 years, $15,000 relocation allowance

$5,000 annual CME allowance

Employer-paid malpractice including tail coverage

Employer-paid short-term disability; optional long-term disability

Retirement plans (403B & 457B)

For over 44 years, our program has produced outstanding Family Physicians who serve Northeast Iowa and beyond.

Position Highlights

Academic Leadership: Actively teach and mentor residents in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.

Inpatient Component:

Supervise and educate residents on the Family Medicine inpatient service, including adult medicine and newborn care (OB optional).
