8 Rivers
Company
8 Rivers is a Durham, NC firm focused on the invention, development, and commercialization of sustainable, infrastructure-scale solutions to global problems through impactful technologies. The company maintains the agility, creativity, and fast-paced environment of a start-up, while partnering with large, industry-leading companies to develop and deploy those technologies. Our process enables us to innovate in industrial fields that are lacking in creative disruption. 8 Rivers has demonstrated expertise in generating and commercializing large-scale, meaningful solutions to some of the most challenging problems facing the world today and across a variety of industries in the clean energy, carbon capture, and clean fuels sectors.
The company innovates widely in adjacent markets in the clean tech space. Some of our marquee technologies include the Allam-Fetvedt Cycle - a zero-emission power production system that enables low-cost power production with inherent carbon capture, 8RH2 - our innovative clean hydrogen technology utilizing CO2 convective reforming to achieve 99% carbon capture.
Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated Sr. Project Engineer with 8-10 years of experience in the Oil & Gas sector, and ideally exposure to power generation projects. The successful candidate will bring a mechanical (with process engineering experience) or chemical engineering background and a mix of operations and design firm experience (EPC, EPCM, or EPM). This role will play a critical part in advancing a First-of-a-Kind (FOAK) technology, leading coordination and oversight of external engineering partners through the Pre-FEED and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phases.
Responsibilities
Serve as the owner's representative in managing and interfacing OE, EPC, EPCM, and/or EPM firms during Pre-FEED and FEED phases. Support development and execution of project engineering deliverables for technology deployments. Review and provide technical input on engineering studies, drawings, and design documents. Ensure project deliverables for Pre-FEED and FEED are developed to industry standards and integrated to support overall project objectives. Clearly communicate the importance of process deliverables (PFDs, heat & material balances, utility summaries, equipment lists, line lists, material selection diagrams, etc.) and how they enable the final Pre-FEED or FEED deliverable. Coordinate or support the development of Requests for Proposal (RFPs) and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for equipment suppliers and EPC/EPCM contractors to support project advancement into FEED or detail design. Facilitate communication between internal stakeholders and external engineering contractors to ensure project alignment. Monitor contractor performance, schedule, and deliverables for quality and consistency. Support project risk reviews, constructability assessments, and early operations considerations. Collaborate across disciplines to ensure smooth transition from Pre-FEED through FEED and into detailed engineering and execution.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering (required). 8-10 years of progressive engineering experience, including: Strong familiarity with typical Pre-FEED and FEED deliverables, and ability to explain their importance in supporting the overall project outcome. Experience drafting and issuing RFPs/RFQs for equipment suppliers and EPC/EPCM firms. Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional stakeholders and manage third-party engineering firms. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Skills and Abilities
Professional Engineer (PE) license. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Experience with supercritical COâ‚‚ processes (highly desirable).
