Description
Solano Community College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible part-time counseling and/or teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitment. Counseling/Teaching assignments may include day, evening and weekend hours. The district may cancel classes or change instructors as enrollment needs are determined. Responsibilities
Provide academic and career counseling services, and/or teach Counseling division courses. Conduct scheduled and drop-in individual/group counseling sessions as assigned; maintain informational reports as required by the Dean of Counseling; conduct on-campus and off-campus counseling assignments; assist with student outreach/in-reach presentations on a variety of topics; assist with orientation and recruitment programming; maintain current knowledge of academic and career counseling techniques and information; attend required trainings and professional development; make appropriate student referrals to campus and public service agencies as necessary; serve as liaison person with assigned academic divisions, departments, or special areas; utilize variety of computer software systems for career and academic counseling/teaching; and perform special duties as assigned. Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and requirements; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents, learning outcome assessments, and reports; and maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.
Counseling/Teaching schedule may include evening or weekend hours as part of contract assignment.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling, OR the equivalent.
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.) CCR 53410.1

Equivalency is defined as possessing the general education for the degree and the major coursework for the degree. The equivalency request form shall be included in the application. Ability to learn and use computer software and access websites for academic and career counseling/presentations/instruction. Knowledge of multiple teaching methods which include critical thinking and problem solving strategies; and college academic requirements and standards. Candidates must possess: a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward teaching and/or counseling; sensitivity to teach students from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds who may have wide ranges of abilities, including the disabled.
Adjunct faculty may purchase health and welfare benefits, at their expense, to the extent permitted by the District's health and welfare benefits carrier and/or broker.
Eligibility:
Taught at Solano Community College for at least two semesters (excludes summer session); must be scheduled for a minimum of 40% assignment at the time of enrollment in the health plan; enrollment periods to be determined each semester; once enrolled mandatory participation will be required (participation period to be determined); premiums will be made through payroll deduction and additional premiums due on a monthly basis by check to the Business Office no later than the 10th of each month for the succeeding month's benefits; and other procedures for implementation as determined by the District in consultation with the Association.
