Mentors play a vital role in guiding, supporting, and empowering youth and young adults to reach their full potential. A mentor provides consistent encouragement, models positive behavior, and builds a relationship based on trust, respect, and accountability. Through active listening, goal-setting, and encouragement, mentors help mentees develop life skills, character, and resilience to succeed academically, socially, and personally.
Key Responsibilities
Build a positive, supportive, and consistent relationship with assigned mentees.
Serve as a role model by demonstrating integrity, responsibility, respect, and accountability.
Meet regularly with mentees (in person, virtually, or during group sessions) as scheduled by the program.
Provide guidance and support in areas such as academic success, career planning, life skills, and personal development.
Encourage mentees to set goals and work toward achieving them.
Participate in mentor training, workshops, and ongoing development opportunities.
Communicate regularly with program staff to provide updates, share concerns, and celebrate successes.
Maintain confidentiality while adhering to program guidelines and mandatory reporting requirements.
Promote the values and mission of the program and represent the organization with professionalism.
Qualifications
Minimum age: 21 years old (exceptions may apply based on program needs).
High school diploma or GED required; college degree or professional experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability to relate well with youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds.
Strong communication, listening, and problem-solving skills.
Consistent, reliable, and able to commit to at least
6-12 months
of service.
Must complete background check and reference screening prior to acceptance.
Passion for community service, personal development, and empowering others.
Time Commitment
Average 4-6 hours per month
(meetings, activities, and program events).
Attend quarterly mentor meetings and annual training workshops.
Commitment length: minimum
6 months , preferably 1 year.
