Academies of Math and Science Dean of Students Location: Tucson, AZ Compensation:

The salary range for this position begins at $52,000 annually and is based on relevant experience and qualifications. *This is not a remote position.

The Academies of Math and Science (AMS) are a growing network of top-performing public charter schools in Arizona, recognized for our commitment to academic excellence and equity in education. Our mission is to provide quality education to underserved communities and guide students through a rigorous, college-preparatory curriculum.

We are seeking a Dean of Students to help lead our efforts in building and maintaining a strong, positive, achievement-oriented school culture. This individual will work closely with staff, students, and families to ensure both academic and behavioral success.

What You'll Do

As Dean of Students, you are a visible presence across the school and take primary responsibility for student support, discipline, and culture. You'll collaborate with teachers, families, and leadership to create an environment where students can thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain and promote a positive, achievement-focused school culture.

Support teachers in resolving conflicts and strengthening communication with students and families.

Review student progress reports, assessments, and other performance data to support academic growth.

Organize and implement student academic and behavioral interventions.

Oversee student discipline, including documentation and follow-through.

Coordinate new student orientation and contribute to student scheduling.

Communicate regularly with parents regarding student performance and conduct.

Participate in planning and execution of standardized assessments.

Lead arrival and dismissal operations, ensuring safety and efficiency.

Collaborate with student support staff to oversee after-school programming.

Support teachers with strategies for classroom management and student engagement.

Participate actively in staff meetings, professional development, and the school community.

Role includes: MTSS (Tier 2/3 behavior supports), PBIS, grade-level culture meetings, community events, scholar discipline, attendance monitoring, and professional development facilitation.

Qualifications & Competencies

Minimum 3 years of K-8 classroom teaching experience with a strong record of student success.

Demonstrated teacher leadership (grade-level lead, instructional coach, mentor teacher, etc.).

Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Proven ability to coach teachers, lead PD, observe classrooms, and analyze student data to improve outcomes.

Experience supporting at-risk student populations.

Culturally competent with a strong commitment to equity and the AMS mission.

Technologically proficient (Excel, student data platforms, assessment systems).

Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.

Preferred:

Bilingual in Spanish.

Background in middle school education and/or mathematics.

Familiarity with Saxon Math, Open Court Reading, Corrective Reading, REWARDS, NWEA MAP, and STEM instructional programs.
