Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care. Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are priorities for the RN. The RN assists in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes professional development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Using the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring of staff.
Job Responsibilities: Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments as required by policy or patient condition. The RN demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care. The RN reviews and revises the plan as needed. Collaboration with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services is essential. Resources are utilized appropriately to support the needs of patients and families.
Evaluation: The RN monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions.
Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs. The RN ensures appropriate information is provided during the stay and at discharge.
Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel. The RN functions as a mentor and preceptor. The RN encourages teamwork and identifies opportunities for improvement. Participation in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts is necessary. The RN complies with regulatory standards and is involved in implementing practice changes.
