Our client, a leader in commercial real estate, is seeking a reliable
Data Center Technician
to support physical infrastructure operations and cabling tasks in fast-paced data center environments at two locations in
Elk Grove Village, IL . This is a
full-time, onsite
role, operating
Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm . This position starts as a
5-month contract opportunity
and pays
$25-27 per hour
based on experience. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, detail-oriented technician who thrives in team environments and is eager to grow their hands-on data center experience. The ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience working directly in data centers, is highly teachable, and brings a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Key Responsibilities • Perform Rack & Stack of servers and network devices • Install, label, test, and dress fiber and copper cabling • Terminate copper cabling and ensure connectivity • Use Fluke cable tester to validate installations (highly preferred) • Reboot devices and assist with basic hardware troubleshooting • Route cabling in overhead trays while working on ladders up to 12 feet • Safely lift and install devices weighing over 50 lbs. (with team and equipment) • Support Asset Management and Inventory Tracking • Assist with Shipping & Receiving of IT equipment • Occasionally participate in troubleshooting calls or speak with clients professionally
Qualifications • 2+ years of hands-on experience in a data center • High school diploma or GED required • Familiarity with servers, basic networking, and cable termination • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams) • Physically able to lift heavy equipment and work at heights • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset • Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
Nice to Have • Experience using Fluke cable testers • Exposure to DCIM software • Customer service or client-facing experience • Relevant technical certifications or outside accreditations • Demonstrated job stability or tenure in similar environments
