Position Summary
The Director of US Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) is a visionary leader responsible for defining the strategic direction, enhancing performance, and maximizing the impact of Travere's US Field Medical team. You will lead a dynamic and growing team of regional directors and MSLs, setting a standard for field excellence across our offered therapies.
The ideal candidate is an inspiring and inclusive leader, possessing extensive experience in Medical Affairs, a deep understanding of the industry landscape, and the talent to motivate, coach, and foster high-performing teams. This individual will promote scientific exchange, strategic connections, impactful insight collection, and collaborative efforts to ensure that the US MSL team makes a significant difference for patients, key opinion leaders (KOLs), and our business.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement a vision, strategy, and objectives for the US MSL team that aligns with Medical Affairs, Commercial, Clinical Development, and Corporate strategies. Drive a comprehensive US Field Medical Plan focused on three essential areas: Stakeholder Engagement
- Ensure tailored, timely scientific exchanges with KOLs, digital opinion leaders (DOLs), and institutional stakeholders. Data Dissemination
- Manage the effective and compliant communication of emerging evidence and scientific narratives supporting the understanding and appropriate use of Travere's therapies. Insight Generation
- Lead the methodology for capturing and translating field insights into strategic intelligence that informs medical strategy, clinical development, and integrated evidence planning.
Establish performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of field engagement efforts and monitor progress toward key outcomes such as scientific advocate development, potential for practice change, and cross-functional alignment. Adapt field strategies based on external shifts and stakeholder requirements to keep the MSL team forward-looking, data-driven, and impact-focused. Team Management & Talent Development Inspire and cultivate a mission-driven team of Regional Field Directors and MSLs. Promote a culture of accountability, trust, and inclusion, recognizing and rewarding excellence while supporting professional growth and retention. Oversee performance management, development plans, and succession strategies throughout the field team. Operational Excellence Align field resources with strategic business needs, focusing on budget management, territory optimization, and deployment strategies. Uphold compliance with internal and external regulations, modeling scientific integrity and ethical behavior. Manage vendor relationships and ensure consistency in MSL operations, metrics, and competencies. Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as a strategic partner to Medical Affairs leadership and collaborative teams across Clinical, Commercial (sales & marketing), Market Access, and Regulatory. Translate insights from the field into actionable business strategies, influencing evidence generation plans, data communication, and stakeholder engagement. Guarantee adequate field representation at major medical congresses and significant scientific forums. Education/Experience Requirements Advanced degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in a relevant life science discipline is essential. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered. At least 10 years of experience in Medical Affairs, including a minimum of 5 years in field medical leadership. Demonstrated success in leading a large, geographically diverse MSL team. Experience in rare diseases and/or nephrology is highly desirable. Comprehensive understanding of payer, academic, and key account engagement models. Additional Skills/Experience/Requirements Inspirational leader capable of motivating, coaching, and retaining talented individuals. Prior line management experience with effective performance management and team engagement. Strategic thinker who combines scientific rigor with business insight. Collaborative with strong communication and influencing abilities across various levels and functions. Comfortable with ambiguity, driving change, and implementing best practices. Dedication to diversity, equity, inclusion, and patient-focused practices. Proven ability in managing complex projects, timelines, budgets, and critical paths. Flexible and adaptive to changes in project plans, demonstrating the capacity to implement new strategies and approaches. Willingness to travel up to 50% as needed.
