Our Family-owned apparel client is looking for a hands-on Controller to lead their team. The Controller will serve as the company's senior finance and accounting leader, responsible for managing all day-to-day financial operations. This includes overseeing general ledger accounting, monthly closes, financial reporting, audits, payroll, and HR administration. The Controller will also play a key role in inventory management, payroll compliance, employee benefits administration, and cash flow oversight, ensuring the company has strong internal controls and accurate reporting to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of accounting, including AR, AP, payroll, HR, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closes with accurate and timely financial reporting Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts; provide insights to ownership and leadership team Manage payroll processing and compliance, ensuring accurate and timely payments Oversee HR functions, including benefits administration, employee onboarding/offboarding, HR compliance, and maintaining employee records Maintain compliance with tax filings, audits, and financial regulations Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accuracy Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and credit compliance Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering accuracy, accountability, and development Partner with operations to monitor and control inventory, margins, and costing Support system upgrades and process improvements, including ERP/financial system enhancements Act as a strategic partner to ownership, providing financial insight to support decision-making Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership at the Controller level Experience in manufacturing, distribution, apparel, or retail industries strongly preferred Solid understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance Strong knowledge of inventory management, payroll, HR, and margin control Hands-on leadership style with ability to roll up sleeves while also managing a team Excellent communication skills and ability to partner directly with ownership and leadership teams Proficiency with accounting/ERP systems (experience with Exenta ERP is highly preferred), plus advanced Excel skills Compensation
