Job Description Summary
The Plant Engineer oversees maintenance activities and small capital projects within assigned areas, providing independent engineering support to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations. The role defines, plans, and executes cost-effective projects in line with engineering standards, regulations, cGMP, and Evonik policies. The Plant Engineer drives continuous improvement to reduce costs and maintain high-quality, reliable operations, and may also lead medium-scale capital projects or support new product cost estimates.
Responsibilities
Provide engineering expertise, technical support, and leadership for maintenance activities, equipment reliability, and small capital project delivery within assigned areas at Tippecanoe Laboratories. Plan, coordinate, and execute small capital and technical change projects from scope development through design, construction, commissioning, qualification, and startup, ensuring compliance with cGMP, safety, and corporate standards. Support daily operations by troubleshooting equipment issues, performing root cause analyses, and implementing corrective and preventive measures to improve reliability and availability. Develop and manage maintenance budgets, cost center performance, and investment strategies to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and sustainable plant operations. Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, maintenance strategies, safety, and regulatory compliance to enhance productivity and reduce lifecycle costs. Maintain and update engineering documentation, specifications, and standards to support consistent operation, quality assurance, and efficient maintenance. Ensure adherence to all quality (cGMP/SISPQ) and ESHS (Environmental, Safety, Health & Security) requirements through proper training, documentation, and safe work practices. Lead or consult on medium-scale capital projects and new product introduction estimates, ensuring alignment with business priorities and operational readiness. Develop mid- and long-term asset and investment plans to support production growth, reliability, and continuous improvement objectives in assigned areas. Requirements :
Bachelor's degree in engineering (Civil, Structural, Architectural, Industrial, or Mechanical) with 1-3 years of relevant plant, maintenance, or project engineering experience. Strong technical and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve real-time equipment, electrical, and infrastructure issues. A highly hands-on, proactive engineer who thrives on fieldwork, tackles problems directly, takes ownership to get things done, and is dependable on-call whenever needed. Sound knowledge of plant design, project execution, maintenance management, and engineering standards. Demonstrated ability to manage small capital projects and drive improvements in reliability, safety, and efficiency. Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and collaborate across departments. Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP (or equivalent systems) for project, maintenance, and cost management.
