General Statement of Duties
Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, November 17, 2025.
Performs highly responsible technical reimbursement/medical billing work; commercial and private insurance knowledge in connection with the financial operation of the Department of Mental Health and Developmental Services; does related work as required.
Essential Duties
Entry level position is responsible for reimbursement processes for mental health and substance use disorder services for various insurance carriers; responsible for keying service, client billing, obtaining authorizations and responding to questions about the bill; responsible for complex billing, posting, balancing, analyzing and reconciling reimbursement processes; responsible for accounts receivables for long term and self-pay accounts, generating billing and client statements; responsible for research, resubmission, reconciling and following up on outstanding third-party claims, denials, rejections, account corrections and balances, insurance and self-pay refunds as they pertain to Medicare, Commercial, Medicaid, and the five Managed Care Organizations; actively participate with Supervisor, Business Manager, program staff, reimbursement staff, clients, and third-party payers in maintaining current standard operating procedures when performing duties and working on special projects and other essential duties. Experience with both Cerner and Credible is a plus.
Considerable knowledge of methods used in keeping fiscal accounts and records; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures, routines and equipment; some knowledge of accounting principles and practices; ability to perform complex mathematical calculations quickly and accurately; ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions, ability to research a variety of data; ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with employees and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school, preferably with bookkeeping and business coursework, and four (4) years of clerical/bookkeeping work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Additional Information
Experience working in a healthcare setting familiar with insurance processes in the area of authorizations and reimbursement required.
Expected salary: Low range of the listed salary scale.
