Summary

The Music Department seeks a faculty member who can teach a full course load in Music, including courses in the core music sequence, and directs a vocal or instrumental ensemble. Typically teaches 18-21 semester hours per academic year (6-7 courses per year). Additional duties include ongoing professional development in performance and/or scholarship, serving on campus-wide committees, assessment of academic programs, and supporting Christian Science-based character education in accord with Principia's mission as outlined in Education at The Principia. Primary Responsibilities Teaches 18-21 semester hours per academic year in Music Is an active character educator in accordance with Principia's mission Teaches courses within the context of Principia's philosophy of liberal arts education Works closely with students to develop their thinking, reading, writing, research, and communication skills. Maintains office hours, meeting with students for academic advising, conferences, and academic support Supports the General Education curriculum, Freshman Year Experience, and writing program Maintains an active presence in the discipline through scholarly work and professional development Assists in departmental and Center work, including assessment, program review, and development of curriculum, and general business and decision making Serves on academic committees and leadership roles Supports metaphysically the mission and goals of the institution and its operations Supports the Music Department by participating in scheduled department events such as recitals, concerts, admissions weekends, etc. Supports student capstones and undergraduate performance in areas of expertise Incorporates music from diverse cultures and historical contexts in a way that fosters global citizenship, empathy, and understanding. Student of Christian Science Supportive of Principia's guiding statements as articulated here https://www.principia.edu/about/guiding-statements Master of Music (MM) required, Doctorate in Music (DMA) preferred. Can consider doctorate in related field with 18SH of graduate experience in Music performance, composition, technology, theory, musicology. Willingness to be an academic generalist able to train in and teach in multiple areas, as needed, within the music discipline and in interdisciplinary collaboration Classroom teaching experience and/or work with college-aged students preferred Ability to work successfully with a range of student musical skill levels and academic abilities within the scope of Principia's BA in Music or Music Studies liberal arts program Piano proficiency and/or performance experience preferred The statements above describe the general nature and level of work but are not a complete list of responsibilities and are subject to change at the discretion of Principia.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive starting salary range for this position: $60,000 - $87,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
