Position Summary
Perform basic park maintenance activities including mowing, planting, spraying and maintaining landscaped areas and playing fields; maintain the cleanliness of park areas, medians, trails and recreational facilities and non-grassed areas and assist in the planting of trees and shrubs.

Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
High school diploma or GED.
Specialized training in park maintenance or landscaping preferred.
Must successfully complete Park Management Training orientation within six (6) months and Park Maintenance Worker level I within one (1) year from date of hire.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire. Preferred Knowledge
Basic park maintenance practices including care of trees, plants and turf Occupational hazards and standard safety practices Basic knowledge of turf equipment Basic knowledge of pesticides and pesticides application equipment Preferred Skills & Abilities
Perform basic park maintenance duties within assigned area of responsibility Operate a variety of light equipment in a safe and effective manner Learn turf maintenance techniques including seeding, sodding and repair Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time Communicate clearly and concisely Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
