The Sheriff's Posse is a citizen-based program that allows residents of El Paso County (EPC) the ability to volunteer within their community performing law enforcement related duties that do not require a sworn officer. Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Sheriff's Posse will be utilized in non-law enforcement support duties where the risk to the Posse member is minimal. Common duties performed by the Sheriff's Posse may include, but are not limited to, the following: Accident/traffic control. Assist the Communications Center and/or SO front office. Assist in Courthouse or other County buildings. Crime scene security. Crowd and traffic control for Special Events. Directed Patrol/Crime Prevention and Alarm Responses. Fire Evacuation. Observation of areas of the County with certain issues. Ride-A longs with deputies. Roadblocks and perimeter security. Parking Complaint's. Impounds. Animal Complaints. Lost/Found Property. Criminal Reports- property related with no suspect. Motorist Assists. Other Duties based on operational needs. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Must be a law-abiding citizen with good intent. Must meet the minimum age requirement of 18. Must be willing to commit at least 80 volunteer hours annually. Licenses/Certificates Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Compliance within six months of employment. Pre-Employment Requirements Must successfully pass background investigation, truth verification examination, motor vehicle record check, drug screen, and physical examination.

Work Conditions

Duties are performed primarily on county roads, community events, and county buildings. Duties may require driving a marked vehicle and participating in indoor/outdoor activities with members of the public. Work may often involve evening and/or weekend functions.

The Sheriff's Office employs a "non-release" hostage policy. This means that in the event you are taken hostage, either inside or outside of a Sheriff's Office facility (vehicles included), we would do everything within our power in order to secure your release; however, we would never release an inmate or prisoner.
