Wyyerd Fiber
Wyyerd Fiber is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced MDU Fiber Engineer to lead the
engineering, planning, and implementation of fiber-optic infrastructure within Multi-Dwelling Unit
(MDU) properties. This role is responsible for designing and costing fiber installations in
apartment complexes, condos, townhomes, and mixed-use buildings.
You'll collaborate closely with construction teams, property managers, sales, and internal
engineering resources to ensure scalable, cost-effective, and timely fiber deployment in MDU
environments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Fiber Design & Planning
Design fiber-optic infrastructure for both greenfield and brownfield MDU properties. Develop detailed fiber distribution designs (FTTP/FTTB), including riser, lateral, and backbone routes. Create construction-ready documents using AutoCAD, Visio, GIS, or fiber design tools. Analyze building plans, floor layouts, and conduit pathways for optimal fiber routing. 2. Site Surveys & Field Engineering
Conduct in-person site walks and pre-installation surveys to assess serviceability. Identify access points, equipment room locations, and pathways for fiber installation. Work with property owners and building engineers to coordinate access and installation logistics. 3. Coordination & Project Execution
Work cross-functionally with internal construction, OSP/ISP teams, permitting, and provisioning teams. Support project management teams by providing technical input and addressing field issues. Ensure engineering designs are executable and meet local code, safety standards, and customer requirements. 4. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain detailed documentation for each MDU project, including splicing diagrams, fiber schematics, and BOMs. Update fiber asset management tools and records. Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, local telecom codes, and industry standards. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in fiber engineering or telecom infrastructure, preferably in MDU/ISP/OSP environments.
Experience with fiber architectures (GPON, Active Ethernet, FTTx). Proficiency with engineering/design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, Visio, OSPInsight, VETRO). Knowledge of structured cabling systems, riser/backbone design, and building telecom codes. Ability to interpret architectural and construction drawings. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with MDU deployments (garden-style, mid-rise, high-rise, mixed-use). FOA CFOT, BICSI RCDD, or similar certifications. Familiarity with permitting and make-ready processes. Working knowledge of OSP and ISP fiber construction methods. Work Conditions:
Split between office and on-site field visits. Travel required within assigned region or project area. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and navigate construction environments.
