APPARATUS OPERATOR VOLUNTEER

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Apparatus Operator Volunteer will respond to emergency incidents and support water supply operations, manage equipment needs and other duties as assigned. Participate in fire prevention, training, station and equipment maintenance and other duties as assigned by the District. QUALIFICATIONS: Resident of Douglas County Must be 18 years or older Have either a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Valid Nevada Driver's License Complete and pass a national fingerprint-based criminal history check and Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles records and conviction check Volunteer personnel under this classification are required to:

Complete an online application Complete and pass the initial two-part physical and District required physical Obtain a State of Nevada F Endorsed driver's license within one (1) year of employment Be trained and certified to conduct defensible space inspections within one (1) year of employment Have a personal cellular phone with consistent coverage throughout Douglas County Have a stable and reliable internet connection at their residence Maintain an active personal email account for district communication Complete a minimum of eight (8) hours of monthly training Complete required on-line District Human Resource training Attend and complete New Volunteer Orientation Complete the following FEMA courses IS-700. B: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System IS 100.C Introduction to Incident Command System, ICS 100 IS-800.D: National Response Framework, An Introduction IS-200.C: Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS-200 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides logistical support to fire emergencies which are but not limited to:

General Incident Support Support Unit Operator/Driver Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Support Squad response and operation Water Tender response and operation Station maintenance, care and housekeeping - assuring that all equipment is in a state of readiness at all times; checks equipment according to schedule and District policies and standards Apparatus care - assuring that all apparatus is in a state of readiness at all times; checks apparatus according to schedule and District policies and standards Community Risk reduction Fuels Management programs Fire Hydrant testing and painting Operate non-emergency vehicles May provide basic first aid and hands-only CPR on medical emergencies encountered during the course of support activities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENT:

This position requires the ability to climb ladders and work at considerable heights; wear protective equipment weighting up to 58 pounds; use power driven tools; may require regular exposer to outside wet/humid conditions, standing for extended periods of time, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 58 pounds, carrying up to 58 pounds and kneeling and walking in uneven terrain at fire scenes and stamina. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone; hear fire alarms, speakers, horns and bells.

Duties may be subject to performance under adverse environmental conditions and exposure to solvents, chemicals and hazardous substances.
