Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented
Patient Services Representative I (PSR I)
to provide high-quality patient care and accurate specimen collection in a professional healthcare environment. The PSR I serves as the face of the organization, greeting patients, performing phlebotomy procedures, and ensuring specimens are properly prepared for laboratory testing. This role requires strong technical skills, exceptional customer service, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and safety.
Job Responsibilities
Perform daily specimen collection and processing activities accurately, efficiently, and on schedule under the supervision of the area supervisor
Greet patients professionally and create a welcoming, trustworthy environment
Draw quality blood samples from patients, including pediatric and geriatric populations, while following established safety and procedural standards
Explain procedures clearly to patients to ensure comfort and understanding
Prepare, label, and handle specimens according to established protocols to maintain integrity for lab testing
Maintain accurate and complete documentation and records for all specimen collections
Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to ensure a clean, professional, and secure work environment
Demonstrate process excellence, confidentiality, and attention to detail in all patient interactions
Promote a positive organizational image to patients, clients, employees, and the public
Maintain flexibility to meet staffing needs, including working weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as required
Job Requirements
Ability to deliver accurate, error-free work in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Excellent phlebotomy skills, including proficiency with pediatric and geriatric patients
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centered approach
Proficiency in keyboarding and data entry
Flexibility to accommodate changing schedules and coverage needs, including weekends and holidays
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred
Phlebotomy certification preferred (required in California, Nevada, and Washington)
Work Experience
Minimum of 6 months of phlebotomy experience required; 1 or more years preferred
Customer service experience in a healthcare, retail, or service environment preferred
Prior experience with electronic data entry systems preferred
Additional Job Details
Must maintain compliance with all safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards
Schedule flexibility required, including potential weekends, holidays, and overtime
