Our client is seeking a
Controller
to serve as a strategic partner to project managers, collaborate closely with executive leadership, and help guide a growing company toward scalable, long-term success. This role requires not only strong technical expertise but also creativity, adaptability, and the ability to lead change in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee all financial processes, including job cost accounting, corporate accounting, monthly close, and financial reporting. Act as the primary liaison between operations and executive leadership, ensuring accurate WIP reporting and revenue recognition. Partner with project managers to monitor budgets, manage change orders, and oversee billing accuracy. Maintain and enhance forecasting tools (revenue, cash flow, P&L) to anticipate financial constraints and identify growth opportunities. Support strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting initiatives alongside the executive team. Present monthly financial statements to leadership, highlighting variances, trends, and actionable insights. Conduct financial performance analysis against internal and external benchmarks to improve profitability and operational efficiency. Collaborate with the Business Manager to strengthen processes that improve financial accuracy, visibility, and control. Coordinate with external CPA firm for tax returns and annual financial reviews. Manage all aspects of sales tax compliance and oversee the company's bonding program. Lead ERP integrations to streamline workflows between core business systems.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's preferred, but not required). At least 8 years of experience in
construction accounting , including 3+ years in a Controller role. Strong expertise in
percentage-of-completion accounting
and WIP reporting. Proficiency with construction-related financial software (e.g., Sage Intacct, Procore, QuickBooks, Aspire, GC Pay, Textura, AIA Billing Forms). Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to meet tight deadlines. Proven ability to balance independent work with cross-functional collaboration.
