SUMMARY

Responsible for the development of Makino automated system proposals utilizing Makino machining products, such as horizontal and vertical machining centers. The proposed systems range from single machine automated cells to multi-machine / multi-million dollar production systems. The automated systems consist of automated machining cells integrated with auxiliary equipment, such as part markers, material handling systems, and inspection stations. The proposal engineer must collect the required application information, such as part types to be produced, volumes, and machine process information, and develop an automated system proposal that meets the requirements of the application. The proposal content consists of layouts, system description, cost estimates, and final proposal documents. The Automation Proposal Engineer must work very closely with the PM Proposal Engineering group and other internal Makino organizations in the development of the proposal and integration of the automation system content with the overall Makino proposal.

Evaluate and determine the information require to successfully create and complete an automated system proposal. Develop concept layouts for the proposed automated systems in AutoCAD and at times in a 3D format. Work with 3rd party suppliers to generate quotations for auxiliary equipment required for an automated system. Develop cost estimate sheets for the automated systems, working with internal and external suppliers to collect all associated costs for an automated program. Develop the final proposal for submission to the customer, including appropriate terms and conditions and program payment terms. If other organizations within Makino will be creating the final proposal for submission to the customer, the Automation Proposal engineer must provide the appropriate information to the other organizations in a clear, accurate, and complete format. Develop presentations for customer proposal reviews. Present automated system proposals to customers, either at Makino or at customer's facility. Maintain a sufficient knowledge of the technologies and products that apply to automated machine tending applications. This will require attending exhibits, seminars, and training classes. QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of the standard Makino automation product offerings, i.e. pallet-based automated systems. Knowledge of automated machining systems (robot and gantry-based automation) working in conjunction with a variety of machine tool types, accepted industry practices, and competitive environment is required. Basic knowledge of comprehensive workpiece machining systems, workholding devices during part transfer, auxiliary processing equipment (i.e. workpiece washers), and material handling processes is required to effectively concept and propose applicable integrated automated systems. Basic knowledge of machining practices and workholding devices during machining is desired to effectively develop and communicate automation concepts to other organizations, such as the PM Proposal Engineering group. Familiarity with personal computers, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, solid modeling systems (primarily SolidWorks), CAD systems (primarily AutoCAD), and presentation application packages is required. Effective communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written. Ability to travel to customer locations for proposal data collection and proposal presentations. (Up to 25%)
