All positions require that the applicant be a resident of Wyandotte county or willing to relocate within (12) months from the date of hire. As a condition of employment all employees must pass a post offer physical examination and drug screen. And submit proof of identity and employment eligibility.

Job Description

Correctional Cadets are responsible for attending all required training classes and actively engaging in all classroom and hands on activities. Correctional Cadets will receive training that will prepare them for work as a full-time Correctional Specialist in the Wyandotte County Adult Detention Center. All Correctional Cadets are a representative of the Wyandotte County Sheriff's Office just as any other employee. It is expected that Correctional Cadet will conduct themselves in a professional manner while at the Sheriff's Office and also while in their personal time. Correctional Cadets may have opportunities to assist Sheriff Deputies and staff in civilian activities to include community engagement and recruitment events. This position will also provide an opportunity to learn entry level skills such as customer service, work ethic and self-discipline. Participants will earn $15 per hour plus school credits towards graduation. Classes will meet 3-4 times per week for around four hours a day.

Minimum Qualifications:

Senior (12th grade) at any Wyandotte County high school (Bishop Ward, Bonner Springs, Turner, Piper, USD 500 schools) in good standing academically and behaviorally.

Citizen of the United States.

Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

$15 per hour plus high school academic credits
