Data Modeling and Ontology Manager Join Capital One as a Data Modeling and Ontology Manager, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping our Data Strategy. In this dynamic position, you will develop, implement, and maintain enterprise ontologies and work collaboratively across various lines of business to support our strategic initiatives. You will partner with Technology, Machine Learning, and many other teams to integrate semantic technology into our data products and services. In this evolving semantic program at Capital One, you will clearly communicate and advocate for the benefits of using semantic technology and knowledge organization concepts. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with Enterprise governance and tooling teams to create and implement ontology standards that benefit data consumers.

Work closely with Data Product Managers, data modelers, and other ontologists to identify use cases and resolve challenges related to data discovery and consumption.

Align with Data Product teams on shared vocabularies within and across data domains, designing effective modeling solutions that address consumer needs.

Maintain a scalable ontology that integrates vocabularies across domains, types of data, and levels of granularity.

Required Competencies: Expertise in modeling and implementing taxonomies/ontologies that aid data consumers in finding and using data effectively.

Ability to collaborate with business, technical, and data science teams to establish standardized vocabularies, metadata, and relationships.

Independently structure solutions to complex problems and develop modeling frameworks in partnership with the broader Capital One Ontologist community.

Make informed decisions in modeling design that balance standardization and user-specific customization.

Implement ontologies and data models while consulting with stakeholders across various teams focused on data management, search, and product initiatives.

Analyze and implement knowledge organization strategies using advanced tools for machine learning and semantic enrichment.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in information science, computer science, engineering, library science, ontology, semantics, or computational linguistics.

At least 4 years of experience in a metadata-related field (ontology, taxonomy, semantics, or computational linguistics).

At least 4 years of experience with W3C standards related to linked data and ontologies (e.g., JSON, XML, RDF, RDFS, OWL, SKOS).

At least 4 years of experience or training with ontology and linked data tools (e.g., Protégé, TopQuadrant, PoolParty, Stardog, AnzoGraph, Neptune, Data.World).

At least 4 years of experience or training with SQL or SPARQL.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in relevant fields.

Understanding of ontology development and the use of controlled vocabularies for enhanced data discovery.

Familiarity with graph databases and related technologies.

Experience with Python or R programming languages.

Knowledge of JSON, OpenAPI/YAML, and AVRO.

Understanding of Agile principles and methodologies.

Strong project management skills.

Location:

This position may require work in specific locations such as Cambridge, MA; McLean, VA; or New York, NY. Capital One offers competitive salaries ranging from $158,400 to $197,200, based on the location and the qualifications of the applicant. This role also includes eligibility for performance-based incentive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
