Function / Position Summary
To collaborate with the chorus teacher in order to create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. To build and maintain a high-quality choral music program, focusing on best-practice, student-focused instruction to provide curricular and co-curricular music education opportunities for students. Uphold School District U-46 ICARE Standards. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and department information within the school and community.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Serve as accompanist for all choral classes. Assist the chorus teacher with rehearsals and curricular performances such as concerts, community performances, and clinics, as applicable. This may also include events such as Madrigal dinners, curricular student recitals, musicals, and others as dictated by curricular instructional needs in each building. Rehearse with individual sections of the choir for in-depth learning (sectional work or sub-grouping). Work with individual and/or groups of students in preparing music for the ILMEA District 9 and All-State festivals as well as the Fox Valley Music Festival. Serve as accompanist for extra-curricular ensembles and performances as applicable and as weekly hourly allocation allows. Serve as accompanist for individuals and small group participation in Solo and Ensemble festival as weekly hourly allocation allows. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Cultivate a positive, harassment-free instructional culture which motivates students through the use of effective communication and constructive feedback. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and course syllabus/handbook conduct regulations. Other duties as assigned.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent required. Documentation of formal piano training preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
Advanced piano skills required. Sight-reading proficiency required. Knowledge of music theory, conducting, transposing, arranging, and coaching preferred. 3-5 years of comparable accompaniment experience preferred. Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills. Display courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others. Maintain appropriate confidentiality. Establish and maintain effective working relationships; demonstrate a commitment to teamwork. Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent unscheduled interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to maintain the demands of an active choir program (i.e. performances, equipment moves, etc.). Occasionally requires working in warm temperatures, including outdoors and under stage lights. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, or carry heavy materials or equipment, including chairs, music stands, podiums, and other related equipment. Must work in noisy and crowded environments. Public contact requiring appropriate business-like apparel. Ability to sit for the majority of the day.
Terms of Employment
This is a 10-month position; $30.00/Per Hour 5 hrs. per week Benefits & Pension eligibility may apply, see attached for details. Salary and benefits as established by the Board of Education and set forth in the collective bargaining agreement as applicable. Minimum per hour per union agreement.
