Entry Salary: $36,000.00
Position Description for Advocate Position Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate direct services to victims and witnesses of crime, to include but not limited to providing victims and witnesses with printed correspondence and literature on services, rights, and the criminal justice process; accompanying victims and witnesses to court; assisting victims in initiating Criminal Injuries Compensation Fund claims; notifying victims and witnesses of all upcoming court proceedings to include but are not limited to bond hearings; assisting the prosecutor in preparing victims and witnesses for upcoming criminal proceedings; providing updates on changes in court proceedings; assisting with filing charges and obtaining protective orders; providing crisis intervention and supportive counseling services to victims and witnesses; making referrals and locate resources for victims and witnesses; • Screen police reports for contact information on victims and witnesses; • Send victims initial contact letters and make follow-up phone calls; • Assist with preparation of Victim Impact Statements; • Provide employer and housing intercession support; • Participate in community meetings and outreach events; coordinate and partner with other victim service organizations, community-based organizations, Department of Human Services and local government offices; • Provide education and training to law enforcement, community groups, businesses and other organizations; facilitate training sessions, workshops and awareness presentations on victim services and the services of the Victim Services Unit; • Capture, document and enter data on victims/witnesses and the services provided to them; data is entered into the DCJS statewide database; provide quarterly reports to VSU director • Provide back-up and case coverage assistance to the other advocates in the unit as needed.
