General Purpose - Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of engineering plans, maps and record drawings to approved standards for public and private projects within the City. This position serves as a project representative for the inspection of public works projects.
Essential duties and responsibilities - Coordinates activities of consulting engineers, contractors, inspectors and other persons involved in construction and maintenance projects; performs construction and engineering inspection services on assigned projects. Serves as staff support to the Public Works and Sewerage Commission, Common Council and other departments as required. Prepares plans, construction estimates and specifications for assigned projects; does CAD drafting and other design related work. Assists Director of Engineering/Public Works in development of computer systems for engineering records, mapping and engineering models. Maintains and updates the City GIS mapping, official maps, utility as-build records and computer models. Assists with the State of Wisconsin PASER street condition reporting and annual road certification. Coordinates with and assists the City Engineer on other public works projects, and performs other duties as may be assigned.
Desired minimum qualifications - Associate Degree in civil engineering technology or related field. Possess a valid drivers license.
Experience in construction inspection of streets, sewers, water utility installations, and other work pertinent to public works and municipal projects desired
Must be capable of working independently and directing the work of Public Works contractors. Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites, on uneven terrain, under adverse field conditions and standing for long periods of time. Full time employees are eligible for health and dental insurance. Also eligible for participation in Wisconsin Retirement System, life insurance, sick and vacation pay. 01
