Senior HVAC Controls Technician

We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented professional with a passion for HVAC systems, especially with VRF experience, to ensure optimal performance of commercial HVAC setups. This role involves the start-up, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of state-of-the-art commercial HVAC systems. You will work in accordance with manufacturer specifications, project plans, and local codes to achieve peak operational performance. Key Responsibilities: Carry out start-up and commissioning of commercial HVAC systems, including RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps, and VRF/VRV systems. Verify and ensure the correct installation of electrical and mechanical equipment based on design documents and manufacturer requirements. Perform system diagnostics and performance testing; implement adjustments to optimize system operations. Calibrate and program HVAC control systems (BAS/DDC/EMS) as necessary. Create and submit detailed start-up and commissioning reports, including measurements, checklists, and photos. Collaborate closely with construction teams, controls technicians, project managers, and engineers to troubleshoot start-up issues. Ensure all operations comply with local mechanical and electrical codes and uphold company safety standards. Provide training to building maintenance staff and end-users on basic HVAC system functions. Maintain thorough documentation of system configurations, commissioning logs, and resolutions of issues. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC trade school or technical certification preferred. Minimum of 2 years hands-on experience in HVAC start-up or service within a commercial environment. Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control wiring diagrams. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including rooftop units, chillers, split systems, and hydronic systems. Proficiency with control systems such as Trane, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar. Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification is required. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Physical capability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in diverse weather conditions. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with test and balance (TAB) procedures. OSHA 10/30 certification. Experience with LEED or in energy-efficient building practices. Familiar with commissioning software like Bluebeam, Fieldwire, Procore.
