Must-Have: - PCU experience - Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and surgical patients - Chest tube management, epidurals
Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. The unit consists of 15 beds with a staff of 22, including RNs and PCTs. Daily staffing includes 3-4 RNs and 2 PCTs during the day shift, and 3-4 RNs and 1 PCT during the night shift. Patient ratios are typically 4-5:1. Equipment includes cardiac telemetry, chest tubes, and cardiac drips, such as NTG, Cardizem, and Amiodarone. The patient population includes post-cath patients, post-surgical patients (including open heart, lung, general surgery, and orthopedic patients that require cardiac monitoring). Electronic medical records are managed through Meditech. Candidates must have the ability to work effectively in a team setting. Strong time management skills are essential, especially with a high turnover of patients. Typical procedures performed on this unit include post-cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, device placements, groin management, chest tubes, and care for post-operative surgical patients. Critical drips, epidurals, and PCA management are also part of the nursing responsibilities. The best personality fit for this role is outgoing, team-oriented, and willing to go above and beyond for patient care. Floating to ICU and med-surg may be required, caring for PCU type patients. The dress code requires navy or white scrubs, with the option to mix and match colors. Every other weekend or four weekend shifts are expected.
