General Statement of Job

Performs semi-skilled labor involving traffic control devices on city roads and right-of-ways to ensure compliance with federal standards. City Expectations : Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.

Duties & Responsibilities Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

1. Constructs, installs and maintains traffic control and informational signs and pavement markings in accordance with the Uniform Traffic Control Devices Manual and the Florida Department of Transportation guidelines. 2. Places and maintains various detour barricades and directional markers in accordance with detour site plans and federal standards. 3. Conducts field inspections of traffic control and informational signs to determine need for replacement. 4. Trims trees and brush, cleans signs, and removes obstructions that impair visibility affecting driver safety. 5. Delivery, placement and removal of barricades for special events. 6. Accurately and legibly completes and maintains all required records and documentation. 7. Maintains cleanliness of shop, work areas, city vehicles and equipment. 8. Safely and efficiently drives and operates city vehicles as required. Transports supplies, tools, or other material to and from job site. 9. Performs additional departmental maintenance assignments as required. Responsibilities

: Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of work assignments following established safety practices. Responsible for personal safety and proper use/care/maintenance of tools/equipment used. Responsible in work to the Maintenance Foreman.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum Education and Training

High school graduate or equivalent and two (2) years maintenance experience related to areas of relevant operations and functions. Possess an Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic certification and an International Municipal Signal Association Sign and Pavement Marking Technician Level I certification or ability to obtain both within one (1) year. Skill Requirements

:

Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in roadway traffic maintenance and repair techniques. Familiarity with the Uniform Traffic Control Devices Manual and other regulations governing the use of traffic control apparatus. Must be able to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Ability to operate relevant tools and equipment used in sign installation, fabrication and maintenance. Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain/interpret records, prints, maps, plans, and diagrams. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public. Possess a valid Florida Driver's license, free of any serious violations. Requires a working knowledge of the current version of the Microsoft Office Professional software suite including proficiency with Word and Excel. Must have a basic understanding of the current version of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Familiarity with CentralSquare Software applications based on an iSeries system is preferred. Working knowledge of current versions of Internet browsers and Microsoft Outlook is also highly recommended. Ability to learn specific computer applications used in the Department. Physical Requirements

: Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, and lift/carry traffic control signs. Physical exertion large part of job. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather and for prolonged periods of time. Must have good eyesight and hearing with or without aides. Supplemental Information Working Conditions

:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors during all types of weather conditions. May also work in roadways where vehicle traffic hazards exist.
