We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Metallics Materials & Process Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in metallic materials, coatings, and surface finishes for aircraft components for Wisk's next generation aircraft. This role is critical for ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our aircraft components and systems. The metallurgist will be responsible for metallic materials selection, failure analysis, process development, and quality control, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and research and development teams.
This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days.
What you will do:
Serve as the M&P lead for metallic material selection and processes for aluminum, steel, titanium, and other alloys Review and advise on metallic part and assembly drawings Provide design guidelines for corrosion prevention Author & support material & process specifications, test plans, test reports, and design guides Support Wisk Production through non-conformance dispositions, failure analysis, root cause investigations, and correct active recommendations Support evaluation and auditing of metallic part suppliers Requirements
Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience. Degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related Strong knowledge of aerospace alloys, their usage and application, including machining and forming processes, and heat treatment Strong knowledge of corrosion types, causes and corrosion control processes and procedures, such as chemical conversion, anodizing, and primer/topcoat application to metallic and/or metallic/composite assemblies Working knowledge of MMPDS and its usage Experience with mechanical fastening systems, requirements, design considerations, structural sizing, and analysis techniques Experience developing test plans, specifications, and qualifications of metallic materials and processes Experience supporting manufacturing environment, including disposition of hardware non-conformances Background in metallurgy, metallographic evaluation, fracture mechanics, failure analysis techniques and non-destructive testing (NDT) methods Familiar with FAA regulations, Industry Standards (ASTM's, AMS, Mil Specs)

Pay range the company expects to pay: 169,000 - 199,000 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
