POSITION TITLE SENIOR DIRECTOR WORKING TITLE Senior Director of Transportation Services SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT Transportation LOCATION Crossroads III, Cary, NC PAY GRADE Senior Director Band 1 FLSA STATUS Exempt WORK WEEK SCHEDULE Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends).

Position is not available for a Hybrid Telework workweek. POSITION PURPOSE: As the Senior Director of Transportation Services, you will lead and support the safe and efficient transportation of students, overseeing the operation and maintenance of a fleet of buses and related vehicles. You will administer contract transportation programs for special needs students and be responsible for training and supervising bus drivers and safety assistants. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In-depth knowledge of public-school laws and Wake County Public School System policies affecting student transportation. Strong expertise in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; proficiency in Google Apps. Exceptional customer service skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Outstanding time management and organizational skills. Capable of maintaining professional demeanor under stress. Proven leadership skills with a diverse staff. Excellent communication abilities in both oral and written forms. Able to build strong relationships with school staff, parents, and the community. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field. Five years of experience handling multi-million-dollar operating budgets. Ten years of leadership and supervisory experience in a large organization. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Valid motor vehicle operator's license as per the State of NC requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to respond to urgent work needs at any time. Willingness to work unusual hours during emergencies affecting bus operations. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in business administration or a related field. Experience managing a motor vehicle fleet or transportation system. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Enforce and administer Transportation Department policies while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Develop, implement, and evaluate procedures to enhance the transportation program and meet instructional needs. Optimize bus routes for efficiency. Oversee maintenance of buses and vehicles in accordance with WCPSS and DPI policies, ensuring safety standards are met. Manage the transportation operating budget effectively. Establish procedures for procurement of parts and services, ensuring compliance with financial practices. Oversee contract transportation services, ensuring fair bidding and administration. Promptly address transportation concerns and inquiries from parents and school administrators. Monitor operational data accuracy for state funding and reimbursement. Maintain necessary records per state and district policies. Recruit and train sufficient staff to meet service demands effectively. Develop and lead school bus safety and education programs. Coordinate recruitment and staffing procedures with Human Resources. Align transportation policies with overall school system objectives. Perform other tasks as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Proficient use of various office equipment is required. Effective communication skills are essential. Occasionally, you may need to lift or move objects up to ten pounds. This role may involve a mix of sedentary work and driving automotive equipment, with visits to schools necessitating walking and travel. EFFECTIVE DATE:
