THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Environmental Engineer is responsible for assisting the Environmental Manager to ensure that environmental compliance is maintained at a large, fully integrated Kraft pulp mill.
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT SMURFIT WESTROCK:
Implement environmental programs including:
Title V air permit program
MACT programs (Boiler MACT, RICE MACT, Subparts S and MM)
Stack testing
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Monitoring
Toxics Release Inventory (TRI)
Emissions Inventory
Refrigerant Management
Prepare a variety of regulatory reports which require data collection, calculations, accurate recordkeeping, and an adherence to regulatory deadlines.
Work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to obtain and maintain environmental permits.
Maintain required documents in a concise, thorough "audit-ready" manner.
Supervise operation of the Mill\u2019s gas chromatograph and analyze results used for MACT reporting.
Provide environmental training to hourly and salaried employees.
Support Operations and Maintenance in reviewing environmental controls systems.
Assist with other environmental programs, including NPDES, Potable Water, Surface Water, Groundwater, SPCC, Solid Waste, Universal Waste, and Hazardous Waste, as needed.
Support Smurfit Westrock\u2019s Sustainability efforts to meet carbon and water reduction targets and to increase recycling and beneficial reuse.
Participate in the on-call weekend duty rotation.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
B.S. in Chemical Engineer, Environmental Engineering, B.S. in Environmental Science, or other engineering or science degree.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental compliance or process engineering at a manufacturing facility. Pulp and Paper experience is preferred.
Knowledge of air regulations and continuous emission monitoring systems (CEMS) operation.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent planning, organizational, time management and prioritization skills.
