HIRING RANGE: $22.75 - $23.00/hour

Job Summary

Directly assists the Aquatics Specialist with the on-site supervision of the entire operation of the aquatic facility which includes maintenance, staff relations, public contact, shift reports, and scheduling. Assumes leadership role in the absence of the Aquatics Specialist.

The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position.

We are hiring multiple candidates for this position to fill the anticipated working hours of:

Sunday-Thursday, with the requirement to close two nights per week. Closing shift is anticipated to be 1pm-9pm.

Tuesday-Saturday, with the requirement to open two days per week. Opening shift is anticipated to be 4:45am-12pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City's discretion. Employees must be able to perform the essential duties of this job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Serves as a lifeguard. Ensures the safety and well-being of the public. Ensures all City policies, pool rules, and regulations regarding the operation of the pool are adhered to and enforced by staff. Operates and maintains the pool chemistry. Trouble shoots basic pool chemistry and equipment issues. Ensures cleanliness of the pool, locker rooms, staff areas, and all the other areas within the pool facility. Assists in supervising, directing, and evaluating the work efforts of variable lifeguards as well as providing training, conducting in-service trainings, and audits with supervisory staff. May assist with scheduling lifeguards and head guards to the standards of the Aquatics section and maintains appropriate staffing levels. Instructs a variety of swim lessons classes and other duties as assigned. Makes sure pool chemistry and attendance logs are correctly entered into DigiQuatics. Works a variety of days/hours based on the locations needs, including early mornings, mid-day, nights, and weekends. Requires regular and prompt attendance. Reporting Relationships

Supervision Received : Receives general supervision from the Aquatics Specialist, Variable Summer Pool manager and supplementary direction from the Facility Coordinator.

Supervision Exercised : Provides supervision to headguards, lifeguards and swim instructors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to deal effectively with participants and the public in a positive way. Ability to employ effective instructional methods and lifeguarding techniques, as well as the ability to model those techniques to subordinate staff. Knowledge of operation and maintenance of swimming pool machinery and equipment. A good working knowledge of the use and applications of swimming pool chemicals is preferred. Background check required. Technological Skills

Experience with DigiQuatics and CivicRec software programs. Ability to operate Microsoft Office Suite to include, Outlook, Word and Excel. Education and Experience

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent Experience : One year of lifeguarding experience is required. Six months supervisory experience preferred. Swim lessons experience preferred. Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training

Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI) is preferred. Ideal candidates would have an Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification or a strong knowledge of pool chemistry.

Pay Range

$17.04-$22.50
