Requirements

U.S. Citizenship is mandatory for federal project eligibility.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in RF or RAN systems engineering, with at least 5 years focused on 5G or LTE.

A solid grasp of RAN KPIs, link budgets, interference management, and beamforming principles.

Familiarity with 3GPP Releases 15-18 and practical implementation of RAN features such as mMIMO, CoMP, DSS, and CA.

Proficiency in RF planning and post-processing tools, including Atoll, Actix, TEMS, iBwave, and MapInfo.

Experience in interpreting Layer 3 messages, drive‑test data, and spectrum analyzer results.

Knowledge of O‑RAN/vRAN architecture and related interfaces (F1, Xn, Ng).

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Telecommunications Engineering is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

I will perform RF propagation modeling, link budget analysis, and coverage prediction using tools like Atoll, Forsk, or Planet.

I will analyze interference, SINR degradation, and coexistence scenarios across 4G/5G and federal spectrum bands (e.g., 3.1–3.45 GHz).

I will support lab and field testing of RAN features such as Carrier Aggregation, DSS, and Massive MIMO, ensuring vendor performance is validated.

I will evaluate and optimize gNB and CU/DU/RU configurations to improve signal quality, throughput, and latency.

I will collaborate with system integrators and spectrum teams to identify RF bottlenecks and propose mitigation strategies.

I will conduct troubleshooting and performance audits using RF measurement and analysis tools (TEMS, Actix, Wireshark, QXDM, or similar).

I will prepare technical reports, KPI summaries, and recommendations for both government and vendor stakeholders.

Company We at Thorheed Titan are looking for a proactive RF/5G Systems Engineer with extensive knowledge in RAN performance, spectrum analysis, and interference modeling. This position is critical in supporting federal 5G programs aimed at enhancing RF link performance, optimizing networks, and ensuring compatibility between governmental and commercial wireless systems. The right candidate will possess robust RF design and troubleshooting expertise, along with familiarity with 3GPP features, O‑RAN interfaces, and RAN performance evaluation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with RAN systems from Ericsson, Nokia, or Samsung.

Knowledge of spectrum engineering environments such as NTIA, DISA, or DoD.

Exposure to containerized RAN or cloud testbeds (experience with Docker/Kubernetes is a plus).

An active Secret or Public Trust clearance is preferred.

Prior involvement in RAN field validation, coexistence testing, or spectrum sharing projects.

Why You’ll Love It Here

You will work directly on federal 5G and spectrum-sharing testbeds alongside seasoned RAN and spectrum specialists.

You will contribute to the collection of real‑world performance data that influences U.S. government 5G implementations.

Join a dynamic small business where you will have direct access to leadership and engage in meaningful, hands‑on technical work.

Benefits

Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses.

Health and retirement benefits.

Flexible work arrangements (onsite/hybrid, as required by federal projects).

401(k), dental and health insurance, paid time off, relocation assistance, and vision insurance.

This is a full‑time position with a salary range of $140,000.00 – $170,000.00 per year.

Application Questions

Are you a U.S. citizen eligible to work on federal contracts?

Do you have hands‑on experience implementing 4G/5G features defined in 3GPP releases 15–19?

Please describe your direct experience with 3GPP feature development, validation, or implementation, including the specific 3GPP Releases (e.g., Rel‑15, Rel‑16, Rel‑17) and vendor platforms (e.g., Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung) you have worked with. Please include at least one example of a 5G feature (such as DSS, Carrier Aggregation, Massive MIMO, or Beamforming) that you contributed to in terms of design, testing, or validation rather than just deployment or optimization.

Location Information

Candidates must be able to commute to Fort George G Meade, MD 20755, and are required to relocate there before starting work.

This position requires in‑person attendance.
