Organization Overview Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, affordable housing solutions for families in need. Position Summary The Director of Development and Marketing will play a crucial role in advancing the mission of Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity by leading and executing our fundraising strategies. This position will primarily focus on development work, including donor relations, grant writing, and major gift cultivation, while also overseeing marketing and communications efforts to build the organization's visibility and engagement with the community.

Key Responsibilities Development

Fundraising Strategy:

Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive fundraising strategies, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and special campaigns.

Donor Relations:

Cultivate and maintain relationships with existing donors while identifying and securing new funding sources. This includes individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.

Grant Writing:

Research, write, and submit grant proposals to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and government sources. Manage grant reporting and compliance.

Major Gifts:

Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects, working closely with the Executive Director and Board members to secure significant contributions.

Donor Stewardship:

Ensure proper acknowledgment of all donations, maintain donor records, and create stewardship plans to enhance long-term donor engagement.

Event Planning:

Plan and execute fundraising events, including annual galas, donor appreciation events, and community engagement activities.

Capital Campaigns:

Lead capital campaigns and other major fundraising initiatives, including planning, execution, and follow-up.

Marketing and Communications

Brand Management:

Oversee the organization’s branding and ensure consistent messaging across all marketing materials and communications.

Marketing Strategy:

Develop and implement a strategic marketing plan to increase visibility, promote the organization’s mission, and support fundraising efforts.

Content Creation:

Manage the creation of marketing materials, including newsletters, annual reports, press releases, social media content, and website updates.

Media Relations:

Build relationships with the media to increase coverage of the organization’s work.

Public Relations:

Represent the organization at community events, networking opportunities, and public speaking engagements to raise awareness and support.

Leadership and Management

Team Collaboration:

Work closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and other staff to align development and marketing efforts with the organization’s strategic goals.

Budget Management:

Develop and manage the development and marketing budget, ensuring cost‑effective use of resources.

Volunteer Coordination:

Engage and manage volunteers to support fundraising and marketing activities, including event planning and donor outreach.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

A minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or a related role, with a proven track record of successful fundraising and donor relations.

Skills:

Strong understanding of fundraising principles and donor stewardship.

Excellent grant writing and proposal development skills.

Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

Strong organizational and project management skills.

Ability to build and maintain relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.

Proficiency in donor management software.

Knowledge of marketing and branding strategies.
