Senior Mainframe Developer
provides
advanced technical support
and development expertise for core mainframe data processing systems. This role involves designing, enhancing, and maintaining COBOL-based programs, improving system performance, and ensuring reliability in production environments. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled mainframe developer capable of analyzing complex business requirements and delivering robust technical solutions in a mission-critical banking environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, enhance, and maintain
mainframe applications
supporting enterprise data processing. Perform
analysis, coding, testing, and implementation
of COBOL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, and Easytrieve programs. Collaborate with management, end users, and IT associates to improve system functionality. Troubleshoot and resolve
production system issues , ensuring minimal downtime. Document technical specifications, procedures, and workflows. Support and mentor junior developers as needed. Participate in code reviews, performance tuning, and quality assurance processes. Required Experience:
5+ years
of mainframe development experience. Proven expertise in
COBOL, CICS, VSAM, DB2 , and
Easytrieve
programming. Experience supporting
financial or banking systems
preferred. Strong understanding of mainframe architecture, JCL, and batch processing. Nice-to-Have Experience:
Prior experience modernizing legacy mainframe applications. Familiarity with
Agile or DevOps
methodologies in mainframe environments. Exposure to cross-platform data integration and process automation. Required Skills:
COBOL programming and debugging CICS and VSAM file management DB2 database development and optimization Easytrieve reporting and utilities Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Preferred Skills:
Change control and version management (Endevor or equivalent) Batch job scheduling and performance monitoring Excellent communication and documentation skills Additional Skills:
Ability to work independently while coordinating with distributed teams. Proven record of improving system performance and reliability. Strong attention to detail and commitment to code quality. Benefits:
