Job Title: Transmission Line Engineer
Job Location: 844 Ryan Street Floor 3, Lake Charles, LA 70601
Primary Function Performs engineering work with a focus on transmission line design, including both civil and electrical practices. Requires knowledge of transmission systems from 34.5 kV to 500 kV and familiarity with basic line‑design principles. Successful candidates may be placed in titles ranging from Design Engineer II to Senior Project Engineer based on experience and expertise.
Duties & Responsibilities
Generate cost‑effective designs for high‑voltage electrical transmission lines.
Represent the Engineering department and participate in inter‑department meetings.
Attend meetings with customers as needed to support the Sales department and engineers.
Monitor team progress and activities to ensure projects remain on schedule, within budget, and exceed customer expectations.
Perform transmission line engineering work independently.
Balance innovation and standardization of work processes.
Ensure projects meet quality and schedule objectives (for Project Engineer or Senior Project Engineer levels).
Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by assignments.
Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. Must be a licensed professional engineer, with the ability to become licensed in multiple states or gain license within one year of hire.
Minimum 3 years of hands‑on transmission line design experience.
Experience in preparing cost‑effective designs in an EPC environment.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of routing issues, conductor selection, structure determination, plan and profile development, and material take‑offs.
Understanding of substation structures, foundations, and site development issues.
Familiarity with engineering application software such as PLS‑CADD.
Knowledge of engineering standards (NESC, IEEE, ASCE, ACI, ANSI) that apply to transmission design.
Extensive knowledge of design documents and drawings necessary for a complete project.
Physical Requirements
This position requires minimal physical effort.
Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for at least 8 hours a day.
Primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year‑around weather conditions and noise.
Must be willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%).
Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically.
May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time.
