Senior Manager, Electrical Engineering - R&D

Position Summary
Electrical Engineering technical subject matter expert that provides technical direction to the electrical engineering staff while also identifying and implementing design solutions for medical devices. Accountable for the overall electrical performance of ICU Medical's infusion systems products and staff located in Lake Forest, IL.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Provides technical leadership within the team to ensure that best electrical engineering practices are being applied effectively by team members. For the wider organization this role ensures that technical considerations based on electrical engineering practice and industry standards are appropriately incorporated into current ICU Medical practice, processes and activities.
Assisting in defining objectives for the organization, in terms of new engineering architecture and design and planning decisions for products. Once established, ensure that all objectives are met in a timely and effective manner, with the highest level of quality and compliance to company procedures while using available resources.
Contributes technically by defining and developing optimal design solutions, creating conceptual prototypes and implementing/testing the chosen solution through a full medical device product life cycle.
Assist the team with implementation and refinement of the Agile Hardware Development methodology.
Demonstrates the ability to solve complex technical problems through analytical solutions.
Support regulatory audits as Electrical Engineering Subject Matter Expert when necessary.
Exceptional influence and organizational agility skills and conflict management resolution experience. Recognizes and effectively balances the interests and needs of the electrical team with those of other cross functional organizations.
Assist with establishing budget and resource plans for electrical engineering staff.
Conveys information clearly and effectively through both formal and informal documents; reviews and edits written work constructively.
Exchanges information with appropriate frequency and within a time frame to maximize its utility and promote cross-functional collaboration.
Must be able to utilize technical leadership skills in a team environment.
Provide technical guidance and oversight on sustaining engineering projects as needed.
Participate in ICU Medical's Change Management Team as needed.
Represent ICU Medical in AAMI Electrical Committees when needed.
Ensure compliance of Electrical Engineering Lab.
Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
Work on special projects as they arise.
Knowledge & Skills
Minimum 15 years of new product development experience with increasing responsibility of leading the implementation of electrical design solutions within electro-mechanical products that contain embedded and applications software.
Minimum 5 years of experience in managing a team of electrical engineering professionals through new product development cycles.
In-depth subject matter expertise in electrical engineering and related fields (including but not limited to) Analog and digital design, to include advanced processors and Systems on Chip (SoC), Energy storage, Human-machine interface technologies, Actuation and motion control technologies, Common device to device interface technologies, wired and wireless, and Hardware/software integration experience
Experience with electronics CAD tools as used throughout the complete design/product lifecycle.
Experience with circuit simulation tools to aid in circuit analysis.
Experience with electronics manufacturing technologies, external manufacturing resources (Contract manufacturers and ODMs) and supply chain issues.
Demonstrable experience with product lifecycles from design through ship and on-market maintenance/support.
Experience with JIRA change management/tracking tool.
Experience with formal documentation systems a plus.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university is required.
Master's Degree preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of experience required.
Understanding of Medical Device Design Standards desired.
Work Environment
This is largely a sedentary role.
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
Typically requires travel 5-20% of the time.
Salary Range – $142,500 – $204,250
The salary range displayed represents the annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, education, licensure/certifications, and geographic location.
