Scope As a designer at Ferrara you will be responsible for designing mechanical components and systems, working with Sales and Engineers to meet customer and sales product requirements. Core designs include bodies, cabs, chassis components, and integration of new products into existing designs. You will produce defect‑free design packages within the specified schedule, support production during the vehicle build phase, and support the Field Service organization when vehicles are in service. Your technical guidance and support are essential to both internal teams and external customers.

Essential Functions

Creating and changing mechanical and electrical components and systems used on Fire Apparatus.

Drawing creation for manufacturing components, applying drafting standards and knowledge of metal fabrication/assemblies.

Managing indented Bills of Materials (BOM) in adherence to company standards.

Providing manufacturing support to ensure quality and schedule commitments are met.

Fulfillment of customer requirements such as quotes and shop orders, ensuring design rules and interface points are respected.

Holding cross‑functional design reviews to deliver robust, producible designs that meet industry and company requirements.

Participating in customer meetings to understand design requirements and answer product design parameter questions.

Engineering change management through established processes and documentation.

Useful Skills

Awareness of regulatory standards – NFPA, DOT, ULC, etc.

Knowledge and application of lean principles in manufacturing and business processes.

Other Duties

Perform or assist with operations required to maintain workflow or respond to production or customer requirements.

Tools & Equipment Used

Autodesk Inventor and/or AutoCAD

Autodesk Inventor Finite Element Analysis software

Microsoft Office

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Field or equivalent experience.

Proficiency in CAD systems – Autodesk Inventor and/or AutoCAD.

Minimum of 0–2 years of general design work experience.

Knowledge of NFPA standards related to Fire Apparatus is not required but beneficial.

Physical Requirements Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements include close and distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
