Position Summary
This is technical work in performing routine as well as non-standardized laboratory testing. Work includes responsibility for performing a variety of standard and highly specialized analytical tests on soils, plants, animal waste and agricultural materials, and for the accuracy of results of the standardized tests. This position also includes the performance of the more difficult and complex tests and examinations and re-tests where abnormal or typical results are obtained. This position will also be responsible for sample preparation and disposal.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and techniques used in laboratory work. Knowledge of computer applications such as Excel and Word.

Standing for long periods of time. Lifting 30+ pounds.

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Prepare and extract soil samples utilizing multiple extraction techniques following all relevant SOPs and QA/QC protocols. Maintain all necessary solutions and equipment utilized for extractions.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Perform texture, soluble salts, and boron analysis for soil, greenhouse, and saturated paste extractions. Provide back up analysis for boron and soluble salts in soils using various extraction methods.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Open and organize all received samples into sets for IT log-in. Grinding, sieving, and drying of soil samples. Rotating racks of soil from the block building, and conducting quality checks of soil sets.
Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities
Assist in sample receiving with walk-in clientele, making up soil sets, communicating with UGA County Extension offices for paperwork clarification.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Oversee student workers, help in maintaining the cleanliness of the lab, and other assigned duties.
