SUMMARY:

Operating under the general supervision of their assigned Nutrition Services District Manager, this position supports the Nutrition Services (NS) Department/Director by leading the Lunch Lizard mobile food truck program in the production and service of scratch produced meals for students. Ensures compliance with all components of the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act, Mesa County Health department guidelines, the Live Well School Meal Initiative and District nutrition policies, procedures, and standards. Position acts as the school's point of contact for the Lunch Lizard Program and as such must promote a positive attitude, teamwork, and the District's mission working cooperatively with school administrators to fuel successful learning by creating an inter-dependent friendly nutritional meal options for District students.

Job Task Descriptions

Implements & oversees the daily preparations of the District's mobile Lunch Lizard food trucks. Duties include but are not limited to the production and serving of meals, complying with correct portion sizes, required items and quantity per United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Offer versus Serve standards, Counting and Claiming procedures, and District policies. This position requires highly skilled culinary abilities, cooking daily from scratch to provide well-balanced, nutritious, and tasteful meals to students. Conducts daily staff meetings with Kitchen Associates assigned to Lunch Lizard duties to briefly review work assignments per the Live Well weekly planning sheet. Employee must maintain organized records, monitor nutrition services operating changes, and be knowledgeable of and apply Live Well production guidelines. This position reviews and advises Lunch Lizard staff on logistical and site specific needs and routines as needed. They also provide support to Associates to accomplish assignments and as needed employee is expected to adjust and change assigned work duties to ensure food quality and customer service standards are maintained. Performs and directs all daily cleaning tasks for mobile food trucks including, but not limited to; dishwashing, sanitizing all food contact surfaces used for preparation, cleaning all non-food contact surfaces such as floors, shelving, walls, windows, laundering of linens, towels etc. This person ensures the health and safety of everyone they serve through compliance with all District, City of Grand Junction, Mesa County, state and federal laws, statutes and guidelines. Working with the assigned Kitchen Manager, employee helps prepares weekly food orders while ensuring First-In, First-Out (FIFO) and inventory turnover standards are maintained. Employee is responsible for monitoring food costs within budgeted parameters including all aspects of the production record process and timecard reviews. Results and cost fluctuations beyond acceptable levels are investigated for resolution. Utilizes and directs Lunch Lizard employees on proper use of point-of-sale software programs, employee timekeeping software, and other nutrition services information management systems. This employee is responsible for compiling and verifying daily bank deposits accurately reporting any discrepancies according to department protocols. Assists in promoting, and educating students, the community, District staff, and other stakeholders regarding the Lunch Lizard Program. This position has some outreach contact with public and private sector support including potential and existing funding sources and must work cooperatively to facilitate these interactions. EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent required (Acceptable equivalent will be at the sole discretion of the District); Minimum two years prior food service experience; preference given for prior culinary supervisory experience and/or school nutrition services experience; Mesa County Food Handlers Card required within 60 days of hire. Serve Safe Certification required within one year of hire Operating knowledge of point-of-sale software and kitchen database management software within 60 days of hire. Position requires conversational English skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

Criminal background check required for hire; Lift test of 50# required at time of hire with recertification every three years; District's Small Vehicle Permit within 60 days of hire; Submit a current Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and meet the Colorado School Districts Self Insurance Pool (CSDSIP) insurability standards at the time of hire and throughout employment Commercial driver's license (Class B) required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire; Attend and successfully complete all staff development training as required by state law or as directed by the Director of Nutrition Services.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Oral bilingual skills English/Spanish are desirable; Basic professional written communication skills; Ability to communicate, coach, teach, and develop using the 3 C's continuum to all types of learners; Ability to assess, conceptualize, and implement systems for training and coaching of kitchen personnel; A passion for developing and growing personnel in their roles with the organization; Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job; especially related to personnel issues; Ability to work independently as needed with minimal direction and/or supervision; Ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent interruptions in a timely manner; Ability to be adaptable and flexible with critical thinking and problem solving capabilities; Well-developed ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, building and department procedures; Ability to follow and comply with the current Colorado Department of Education and District policies and guidelines regarding food preparation, delivery, and storage; Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds; Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator; Knowledge and enforcement of District rules and regulations is required to protect District people and property and to prevent safety concerns before they happen.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

Operating knowledge of and experience with institutional food service equipment; ovens, warmers, mixers, steamers, kettles, meat slicers, food processors, sectionizers, and immersion blenders etc.; Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals; Operating knowledge of and experience with office software such as word processing and spreadsheets; Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.
